Official Use
Law Enforcement Portal
Law enforcement officers, medical examiners, and county officials may request the release of a decedent’s filed record by presenting a valid death certificate.
How requests work
- Submit the request form with your agency details, a case or file number, and a copy of the death certificate.
- Every request is reviewed by our verification office — a person, not an algorithm. We may contact your agency through its published switchboard to confirm the request originated with you.
- Once verified, we release the sealed file and key according to the record holder’s instructions and applicable law, and we mail copies to the next-of-kin contacts the record holder named.
We refuse fraudulent requests and report them. Death certificates are checked for authenticity, and all releases are logged. If a request can’t be verified, it isn’t fulfilled — no exceptions, no expedites.
Not law enforcement? If you’re a family member who found a Alamo Wills dog tag or record number, use the QR page on the tag itself, or read how records are released.
